Initial Description:
Laci was returned due to economic hardships after being in a home for 3
years. She was a little shy in foster care originally, but is a happy,
outgoing girl now. Tail waggy and does little hand nibbles when she's
excited. She loves to hang outside and enjoy the fresh air.
UPDATE 10-23-09: Laci has settled back into foster care like she's never left. If other dogs are getting attention, she pushes her way through wanting to be first in line. She only has 6 teeth left, but loves to mouth you (or should I say "gum" your arm) when she's excited. She has free reign of the house and has been fine when left about 6.5 hours (although we've worked up to that).
Laci's sweetest quality is how affectionate she is. She will paw you when you stop petting her and likes to snuggle up right against your body. She's a great eater and has been getting 6.5 cups per day over 3 meals to put on some weight, and she's finally just right. Part of the reason she was returned is because she has some eye problems which will mean daily ointment for life in both eyes. The ophthalmic specialist can't pinpoint a reason for her corneal degeneration, but could be secondary to Pannus and a combination of dry eye. She has calcium and lipid deposits over both eyes but her vision doesn't seem to be affected too much yet. She doesn't have to go back for a check up for another 6 months.
She has recently taken to running FULL out laps at top speed in the yard, loves to dig in the sand box, but goes crazy to play in the snow! Laci will grab a toy here and there and have fun playing, but her two most favorite things in the world are going for car rides and hanging outside on the porch.
I have her marked as cat safe with supervision because she doesn't do anything to them, but is very interested and will chase if they run. Hanging out in the room with them calmly is not a big deal - and she gets afraid when they whack and hiss at her! So, we are going to keep working with her and the cats together.
