ZEUS (Shockey Clipper)
6/96 - 4/25/2009
Zeus came to us in a very unusual way. We had previously adopted an 18-month-old greyhound--our beloved and much missed Jet (Dale Earnhardt)--from GHG who, after two short months with us, succumbed to liver failure. We knew that we wanted a new dog to love, so we called Jane Drellow again. She told us that only one dog was left for adoption. We said that we'd take him, sight unseen, and it was truly love at first sight. Zeus was being fostered by Jeanne Megrey, and he was so happy to be with her and her brood that we almost felt sorry about taking him away from them. But we are certainly glad that we did. Jeanne told us that he would not chase the bunny at the track in Wheeling, so Shockey Clipper, as he was known then, was scheduled to be put to sleep before GHG came along. Zeus gave us 11 years of unconditional adoration. He fawned over his dad but worshiped his girl, Beth. His greatest love was lying in the sunshine and he dreaded baths. When Beth left for college, Joe stepped in and ably assumed most of Zeus' daily feeding and walking duties. Even our move to Maryland did not slow Zeus down. Unfortunately, he eventually succumbed to the cancer that we thought he had beaten only five years before. He was the sweetest dog that we have ever known, a friend to every person and animal that he met. Our whole neighborhood misses Zeus. He was one of kind. Larry, Lynne, Beth, and Joe Denicola
