Brooke was a momma dog who had 2 litters of puppies, the last of which are about a year old now. She had some problems with her hind legs in November which made her owners decide not to breed her again. We see a little bit of weakness in her back legs when she stands for prolonged times, but has no problem walking or jumping up in the car.
The best words to describe Brook are gentle and loving. She is respectful of your space and waits to be called before she comes over. Once she’s next to you, she is a true velcro dog. She has done so great around children that we’d actually like to place her with some. She doesn’t jump and seems to have an intuition about being gentle with younger kids. She does great with her foster mom’s grandkids as well as all the little visitors that came by the booth at the Home Show. Brook is a leaner, seeks affection and is great walking on leash. She rides in the car nicely and loves to watch people through the front door. Her foster mom has tested her for short periods out of the crate as well as being alone in the house and she has done well so far in both situations.
Playing with toys is something she likes to do by herself. It’s fun to watch her throw them up in the air and toss them around. She doesn’t really chase after toys when you throw them, just enjoys providing her own fun! She does try to initiate play with her foster brother (Rock). She is a good eater and will even take treats out of your hand. Brook has beautiful eyes to match her beautiful personality. One visit with her will have you wanting to take her home for good!
UPDATE 5-20-10:
On April 23, Brooke came on vacation to our house for the weekend, and four weeks later, she is still here! Once she joined us, we fell in love in her. She is the sweetest greyhound we have met. She loves to be around her two foster brothers and to run with them in the yard. She is mindful of our youngest toddler and lets him pet and lay with her whenever he wants to.
Since she has been here, Brooke has really blossomed. It took almost four weeks, but she finally has learned to do the stairs. She walks great on the leash in tow with her two foster brothers and she carries toys – usually dog toys - throughout the house. She does great both in and out of her crate when we are not home. Brooke enjoys looking outside and barking at the neighborhood cats. Brooke also will bark at you when she wants to go outside or just wants some attention. Brooke will make a fine addition to any home provided there are no small furry animals for her to catch.
