UPDATE 1-28-12: In the few months that Hornet's been in foster care his
sweet personality has blossomed. He has learned over the past months how
to live peacefully with the resident cats. Hornet has caught onto the
"down" command to lie down and we have been trying to work on the
"sit" command as well as the "wait" command at the front
door. He's very food motivated which makes trying new commands easier!
Hornet seems to recognize the words: potty, hungry, treat and go out, as
he'll suddenly look at you when he hears them...waiting to see if he should get
up and move!
Hornet still loves to play with toys everyday and also does
at least one good run in the yard a day. He has gotten much better
walking on leash and enjoys going for walks with his foster sister &
brother. Hornet does not spook so much anymore at new things.
Sometimes he does get a little startled, but then he's fine. We are
still working with him to control his play nipping. 11-13-11: Hornet is a sweet and silly young guy.
His is a tall, dark and handsome boy. He has been in foster care
for almost a month. During this time he has figured out how to empty the
toy box and enjoys running around and playing with toys right before bedtime!
He did not take long to figure out the stairs and had them mastered
within 24 hours of being in foster care. Since day one, Hornet has had a
good appetite and has finished every meal. I think he would do best with
a fenced in yard since he loves to run in the yard and be silly with his foster
sister and brother. He is currently living with 2 cats and is doing well
for the most part. If the cats run/ move fast he does tend to chase, but
will usually back off when we re-direct him.
He has been sleeping either in his foster mom's room or in the living
room.
Hornet has been around my niece & nephews ranging in age
from 4 to 11 yrs old. He has been good around them and just a little cautious
at times with the different noises/movements they make. He has also on
different occasions been a bit spooky with strange sounds or movements (ie:
umbrella opening, fast hand movements). Since being in foster care he has
become more confident and not spooking as much. He attended his first
Meet 'n Greet this past weekend and did really well. He was curious of
most things and enjoyed the attention from all the people.
When Hornet gets over excited, sometimes he will give a play
nip. We are working on that with him by offering
a toy when he gets to that point and it’s starting to help. We have been also working with him walking on
leash and he rides very well in the car.
He has recently started to have some sleep startle and space issues when
the other dogs come too close to him when he’s lying on his dog bed, so for
that reason he may do better in a home with adults or older, more settled
kids.
