2010 GHG REUNION PICNIC
Saturday (yes, SATURDAY), September 11th from 1:00pm until 5:00pm
North Park Lodge
Going Home Greyhounds Reunion is right around the corner. Be there…rain or shine! Pack up the family and the dogs (no small dogs please – for their own safety) and head out to the North Park Lodge for a wonderful, fun-filled day!
This year will be GHG’s 14th annual reunion and a celebration of our 15th year as a rescue group! As of July, 2010 GHG has placed 1,928 greyhounds into their forever homes! Please stop by the registration table located in front of the Lodge. You can sign in, get a goodie bag, name tag, and pick up a program that lists all the day’s events. We would like to know how many people and dogs joined us, so please be sure to sign in when you arrive.
DIRECTIONS: North Park Lodge is located on N. Ridge Dr. off Pearce Mill Rd, 15101. The entrance to the park is off route 910 or Wexford Bayne Road which is approximately 4 miles from the Wexford exit from route 79, or 3 miles from route 8.
REUNION COORDINATOR, COLLEEN SMITH has accepted the challenge to help things run as smooth as possible throughout the day. Colleen will be making sure events start on time, will have a list of where volunteers are supposed to be and when, and will be able to answer any questions you have that day. Last minute volunteers will be cheerfully welcomed. Colleen, GHG Board Members and event coordinators will be wearing lime green shirts that say “GHG Event Staff” on them, as well as a name tag. Please feel free to approach any of them with questions or concerns throughout the day.
FOSTER DOGS will be at the picnic for everyone to meet, but no adoptions will actually take place that day. If you are a previous GHG adopter and are interested in adopting a particular dog, you may put your contact information on a list provided in the foster area that day. Once you submit an on-line application, Sandy (our Application Coordinator) will contact you with specifics.
AND THERE’S SO MUCH MORE……
RAFFLE: This year’s Reunion will have a special raffle for a very special trip…A One Day Pass for 4 to Walt Disney World and 2- One Day tickets to SeaWorld, in sunny, warm, Orlando, Florida! The Disney passes (valued at over $500) provide admission to a magical experience at their unique theme parks: the Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, or Disney's Animal Kingdom for one day. SeaWorld Orlando has more than 200 acres of up-close animal encounters, thrilling attractions and lavish performances. Now open is the Manta, the only flying roller coaster of its kind in the world.
Tickets will be sold for $5 each or 3 for $10. Only 240 tickets will be sold, so each $10 you spend gives you a 1 in 80 chance to win!
AUCTIONS: The Silent and Chinese auctions have some really exciting items this year! There are tickets to the amazing Blue Man Group in NYC, an autographed lithograph poster from Trans Siberian Orchestra, an autographed copy of ‘It’s Me or the Dog’ by the well known dog trainer Victoria Stilwell (starring in “It’s Me or the Dog” on Animal Planet) and the dedication is to Going Home Greyhounds, and an autographed ‘cartoon’ by the creator of the ‘Mutts’ comic strip - Patrick McDonnell!
Additional auction items include: enjoy a night out at the City Theater, Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre, Pittsburgh Public Theater or the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra! Win 5 days of doggie day care at Camp Bow Wow South or a family membership to the Carnegie.
Raffle hints! Make it easier to ensure you get your auction winnings by bringing your address labels to put on the back of your raffle tickets (you may have to trim them to 1 7/8”) or put the first 3 letters of your last name on your tickets to make identification easier. If you think you may not be there to collect your prizes please ask someone to collect your winnings for you (it is not easy to get baskets to winners after the picnic). Lastly, include your phone number on your tickets. Just a reminder, we will again accept Master Card and Visa for the Silent Auction.
This is the largest GHG fundraiser of the year and we need you to make it a success. The auction needs volunteers to help out on picnic day, so if you’re interested, please let Sandy know. Spend just a little time or a lot. Help is needed for these shifts: 10:30. to 12:30 (set up), 1:00 to 2:00 and 3:00 to 4:00 (ticket selling) and 4:00 to 5:00 (number writing and basket retrieval) and at 5:00 (pack and clean up).
If you have an auction donation please contact Sandy Strychor at strychors@upmc.edu or 724.744.4064 so that we can plan for your item(s) and make sure you are included on the donor list on the picnic brochure. If you plan on bringing your donation to the picnic, please let me know of your intention to do so and arrive before 12:30 p.m. Remember: any and all donations are welcome! We always need baskets so if you have some to donate please bring them with you to the auction.

CASH FOR GOLD and SILVER and PLATINUM, TOO!
Bring your gold, silver, platinum including any broken and unwanted rings, necklaces, earrings, class rings, bracelets, stick pins, watches and gold coins to this year’s Reunion Picnic, and walk away with cash. Look in your jewelry box for those unwanted pieces. Not sure if it is real? Bring it—They’ll test it.
You watch as a professional assessor from the Gold Company tests and weighs your gold, silver and platinum—including coins--in any condition. You’ll be offered top dollar based on current market value, and The Gold Company will donate a portion of the TOTAL events proceeds to Going Home Greyhounds.
The more you sell, the more Going Home Greyhounds earns!
The Gold Company’s donation to GHG will not impact the value of your pieces or the amount of cash you receive. Take advantage of this win-win fundraiser!
REUNION VENDORS
Hi everyone,
It's that time again! Time for vendor sign up for the annual Going Home Greyhounds Reunion in Wexford, PA at the North Park Lodge. The date is Saturday, September 11th, 2010 from 1:00 to 5:00. We hope all of you will be able to make it!
We are asking for a vending fee of $20 per space, and a donation to our Chinese auction. Again this year, the GHG Sale Table is going to be located on the far left side of the lodge, and will take the entire wing. We have limited space in the middle room and the right wing so those spaces will be reserved for our previous vendors and GHG adopters/volunteers first. Please bring your own table.
All vendors are welcome, but all items must be animal related. Everyone is encouraged to bring a tent so you can set up outside, rain or shine, in the event that the lodge fills up. I will send out an email at the beginning of September with a vendor map and your assigned spot.
In the event that you need to cancel, please give at least 24 hours notice so that I can reassign your spot. Vending fees are non refundable in the event of a cancellation under 24 hours. Please contact Angie Mencer at angiemencer@yahoo.com for information on vending.
