Fostering

Foster Homes – GHG is always in need of foster families.

All greyhounds taken in by Going Home Greyhounds are placed into foster homes until they are ready to be adopted. They are in foster care for a minimum of 2-3 weeks. This gives time for each dog to transition from a crate to a house and for GHG to become intimately familiar with the dogs’ personalities which in turn helps us match the right dog with the right permanent home.

The dogs are socialized, learn how to do stairs, begin house training, play with toys, and even reside with cats and/or children.   Some take more work and patience than others, but fostering can be a very rewarding and fun experience and the foster family always has access to assistance from GHG. You can foster as often as you like!

Since fostering a retired racer takes some experience, GHG prefers all our foster homes be previous greyhound owners. Our foster homes are not responsible for any veterinary costs, and we will supply you with a crate. Food and bedding may be supplied periodically when we receive them as donations.

If you are interested in fostering and have already adopted a greyhound, please contact us at fostering@goinghomegreyhounds.org or leave a message on the GHG answering machine at 724-935-6298.
