A LIFE-LONG COMMITMENT

When adopting a greyhound, you have to be committed to that greyhound for the rest of his/her life:

You don’t adopt one because your friends have one.  You don’t adopt one because you saw one in a movie and thought it was cute or pretty.  You don’t adopt because the breed is the current fashion accessory.  When the dog gets old and you don’t want to deal with it anymore, you don’t give it back.  When the novelty wears off, you don’t give it back.

This is a living breathing animal, just like youThey also have feelings.  If your parents had decided, when you turned 9, 10 or 11, that they didn’t want you anymore, how would you have felt?  If your family moved away and left you behind, how would you feel?

You adopt a dog to have a friend and a companion, one who is always there for you when you need him/her.  So think really hard before you make the commitment to adopt a dog; he/she is depending on you, too.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.  You are his life, his love, his leader.  He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.  You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
